ATLS® is the standard of care identified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for physicians who intervene with trauma victims at all levels of clinical practice. ATLS® utilizes a systematic, concise methodology for assessment and initial stabilization of the multiple-injured patient. Lectures and interactive practicums address initial assessment; airway & ventilation; shock; thoracic trauma; abdominal trauma; head trauma; spine & spinal cord trauma; musculoskeletal trauma; burn & cold injuries; trauma of pediatric, geriatric and obstetric patients; and transfer considerations. ATLS® courses are presented in conjunction with the ACS Ohio Committee on Trauma.
The Instructor Course is designed to prepare Providers having Instructor Potential to become instructors. Applicants must have been selected as having Instructor Potential at a Provider or Student Refresher course taken within three years of the Instructor course for which they are registering. The course emphasizes appropriate teaching strategies as well as correct evaluation methods.
Registrants must email or fax (614-240-7417) a copy of their current ATLS® Provider card and Instructor Potential letter to Chris Sheppard, COTS Education Coordinator, to complete the registration process.
