ATLS®-Refresher Course (ATLS-R)

Return to Education

ATLS® is the standard of care identified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for physicians who intervene with trauma victims at all levels of clinical practice. ATLS® utilizes a systematic, concise methodology for assessment and initial stabilization of the multiple-injured patient. Lectures and interactive practicums address initial assessment, airway & ventilation; shock; thoracic trauma; abdominal trauma; head trauma; spine & spinal cord trauma; musculoskeletal trauma; burn & cold injuries; trauma of pediatric, geriatric and obstetric patients; and transfer considerations. ATLS® courses are presented in conjunction with the ACS Ohio Committee on Trauma.

ATLS® Refresher courses are half-day courses which include a short review of the ATLS® process followed by a written exam, triage priorities discussion and initial assessment evaluations. Prerequisite: Registrants must hold a current ATLS® Provider card.  Please note that while ATLS® grants a six-month window in which a physician may take a Refresher course, this does not extend that physician's ATLS® verification past the expiration date shown on the Provider card.

Registration is on a first-come/first-served basis with submission of complete registration and tuition payment.  All courses are held at COTS unless otherwise noted.  Preference is given to employees of COTS member hospitals to within 60 working days of any course.  Therefore, registrants from non-member hospitals will be placed on a waiting list until 60 days prior to any course.
