ADVOCACY

· The CMA/OSMA provide a strong voice for physicians of all specialties.

· Over the last few years, success was achieved on many fronts.  Over 20 tort reform laws were passed; Ohio’s ‘Prompt Pay’ law was enacted; The Healthcare Simplification Law was passed, and much more.

· The CMA’s public policy involvement continues to increase, including screening and endorsement recommendations of candidates; co-hosting of the Central Ohio Legislative Forum, and much more.

· There is much more work to be done, and we are actively working to ensure that CMA/OSMA members have a strong voice.

VOLUNTEERISM

· As a CMA member, you have the opportunity to volunteer at the CMA’s affiliate organization, the Physicians Free Clinic (PFC).  PFC volunteers have provided care to over 30,000 uninsured patients since 1993.

· If you are interested in becoming more involved in the leadership of your association, the CMA offers many options.  We have several committees, such as the Public Policy Committee, the Professional Relations Committee and the Membership Committee that allow you to help guide the work of the CMA.

· There is also the opportunity for you to serve on the Franklin County delegation to the OSMA.

PHILANTHROPY

· CMA physicians established the Columbus  Medical  Association Foundation (CMAF) in 1958 as a health education foundation.  Since 1992, over $25 million has been awarded to local non-profits.

· CMAF provides an opportunity for local youth to learn and experience philanthropic giving through the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).  Many children of CMA members have participated in YAC over the years.

· New strategic direction in 2009.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

· Est. in 1998, the Central Ohio Trauma System has expanded its focus from “trauma-only” to also include emergency medical care issues such as emergency department diversion, patients with STEMI & strokes and transportation of patients with concealed weapons. COTS has taken on a large role in coordinating the collective disaster preparedness of the region’s hospitals and other health care systems.

· CMA is the conduit of emergency information alerts from Columbus Public Health and the Franklin County Board of Health to you.

· CMA developed a Pan Flu Preparedness Plan for physicians and practices and will begin stockpiling personal protective equipment for physicians.
